The Emergency Department at Jewish Hospital Medical Center East (JHMCE) provides emergency medical services to patients 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Care is provided exclusively by physicians specially trained in Emergency Medicine. All of the physicians in the Emergency Department at JHMCE are either Board-certified or Board-eligible.

As with all aspects of Jewish Hospital Medical Center East, the Emergency Department has been designed to ensure the utmost in patient privacy and comfort. Unique to JHMCE, all private patient rooms in the Emergency Department are fully-equipped with:

• Computer workstations
• Flat-screen televisions
• Telephones
• 12-lead gender specific cardiac EKG monitoring capability
• Private bathrooms (limited)

The Emergency Department at JHMCE is staffed to evaluate, diagnose, treat, stabilize, discharge and/or transfer any type of emergency.

Typical cases may include:

• Minor trauma including simple lacerations, contusions, sprain/strains, simple fractures, removal of basic foreign bodies
• Sports injuries, 'weekend warrior' mishaps
• Headache/migraine
• Minor eye injuries, conjunctivitis
• Fever, colds, sore throat, earaches
• Vomiting/diarrhea, mild dehydration
• Cough, mild asthma attack
• Flank pain, painful urination

In case supplemental care needs to be provided to a patient, JHMCE has written linkage agreements with providers of other levels of care. These other providers include the patient's choice of acute care hospitals and emergency medical transportation services.

The Emergency Department will also provide services for Jewish Hospital's EmployCare occupational medicine/injury treatment program. A special focus is placed on 'after-hours' occupational medicine that includes injury treatment, drug screens and other services that have been requested by area-wide employees.
