April 29 was an important day for Bullitt County. On this day, Gov. Steve Beshear visited Jewish Hospital Medical Center South (MCS) to sign a regulation that allows MCS to become a fullservice hospital.

Inpatient Care Close to Home

The regulation created a new review category for existing licensed outpatient care centers like MCS to convert to licensed acute care hospitals with a maximum of 60 inpatient beds. The regulation only applies to projects in counties with at least 60,000 residents that do not already have a hospital. Bullitt County fits this criteria.

“As president of MCS, it is hard for me to describe how pleased I am about the signing of the regulation and the leadership provided by the governor, Sen. Gary Tapp and Rep. Larry Belcher to make this happen,” said Brian Doheny. “There is no doubt that lives will be touched and some may be saved by giving the residents of Bullitt County access to inpatient beds in their own community.”

Excellent Care for All

Since opening two years ago, MCS — with the support of the entire community — has seen our role as Bullitt County’s only 24/7 emergency care and outpatient facility grow.

We are:

  • The provider-of-choice when major disasters strike — including last year’s CSX train derailment and the recent school bus crash;
  • Always open, so we can provide care to all patients at all times;
  • Committed to growth and investment in the health care resources available to Bullitt County residents;
  • Dedicated to providing patients with convenient access to the highest quality emergency, diagnostic and surgical services possible;
  • A good community citizen — we support initiatives that benefit our region, such as the Bullitt County Health Expo, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

A Great Place to Work

MCS also has an outstanding team of health care professionals. Both last year and this year, MCS was recognized by HealthStream Research, a leading national research firm, as having achieved a team member satisfaction rate in the 99th percentile.

We think the reason our team members are so satisfied with where they work is that they get to do what they do best each and every day: provide excellent health care to the wonderful people of Bullitt County.
